만나는 사람이라고는 내가 가르치는 학생들뿐이다. 젊은 그들은 내가 책을 추천해 달라고 하면 주로 판타지 소설을 권한다. 

구매해서 서재에 두고 한 권씩 읽어나가지만, 철학, 심리학, 경제, 과학, 수학, 사전, 언어 교과서, 시험 학습지 같은 논픽션을 선호하는 내게는 소설류는 인내심이 필요하다.

몰입하지 못하고 대충 페이지를 넘기고 싶은 충동을 억누르고 천천히, 조금씩 읽어나가야 하기 때문이다.
