1.    ~(으)면서 indicates that a person is doing two things

 

simultaneously.

톰은 콜라를 마시면서 나무 밑에 앉아 있었다.

 

2.    ~(으)면서 is also used to express complaints, criticism, or disapproval when the two simultaneously existing situations are incompatible or in conflict with each other in general.

3.    ~으면서: when the verb stem ends in a consonant.

~면서: when the verb stem ends in a vowel.
